Question by vanbadiwal: What is a one ounce proof silver bullion American Eagle worth? I have 1986 and 1987 coins.?
Best answer:
Answer by greg b Silver is at 20.10 an ounce
The Silver eagle market is around 22$ for a regular date - so thats the bear minimum.
All silver eagles are uncirculated so quality is prob not an issue for you, if they are still in their original case from the mint they are probably ms 67- to ms 69.
Both of your coins are around -40.
Hold onto them, silver will probably increase even more as the economy slumps.

Question by Todd H: How can I aquire an empty green monstor box that the US Silver Eagles come in?
Best answer:
Answer by Taiping If you are taking about the box that the mint sends to the people thy picked to sell the uncirculate ones, you will have to find one of them. The mint may help you on that for I don't think their names are a secret for I have seen them published from time to time. Question by power_house911: How do you get the paint off of silver eagles?
I personally do not like painted coins. I was wondering if there was a way to remove the paint or ink on Lady Liberty and the rising sun on the face of some silver eagles without damaging the coin? I think it's more of an ink because it has dots on it like it was done by a machine or computer, but it may be a mix of both. Anyone have any solutions?
Best answer:
Answer by jay marcus Try fingernail polish remover, or maybe Acetone either one should desolve the paint or decal. Warning both are flameable so be careful around an open flame.

Question by Chi L: Best place to buy American Silver Eagles?
Where is the best place to buy five to ten American Silver Eagles? Can you buy them from a local bank or is the best place something like a coin shop?
Best answer:
Answer by BenGraham They're a bad investment. I'd rethink your purchase unless you just like collecting coins which I find to be a wasteful hobby to begin with.

Question by Bobby: Why shouldn't I clean my coins? What will happen if I do or don't clean them? My Silver Eagles are tarnished!?
I have 10 American Silver Eagle coins from the years 2000-2005 and they all have varying degrees or tarnish on them. Some of them are perfect on the "face", but the back side is black!! I KNOW EVERYONE SAYS YOU SHOULDN'T CLEAN COINS, but I would like a more detailed explanation as to why I shouldn't remove the tarnish.
1) Why shouldn't I just clean them? I was thinking some tarnish remover would do the job, just a dip in some.
2) If I continue to let them tarnish, will they always look black and oddly colored, or will they go back to looking normal over time?
3) This is the most important question I have: How can I keep any new coins I add to my collection from tarnishing and/or oxidizing? Will air tight holders do the job?
I'm not asking to be a smartbleep, I just want answers! Detailed answers! Thanks for helping, should you choose to.

Question by Chi L: Are american silver eagles an ok investment?
Are american silver eagles an ok investment? I also like the idea of collecting coins so are there any old silver coins that wouldn't run too much above the spot price of silver?
Best answer:
Answer by BenGraham The worst investment is anything Cash. Since the silver eagle coin is cash, it does not make for a good investment.

Question by Dani: Where in North Carolina or anywhere else, can you sell old American Eagle Silver Dollar Coins for good value?
I have old American Eagle Silver Dollar Coins, from the 1980's up to the 2000's. If you know where I can sell them around North Carolina, where I would get a good value for them, or if you have any information on these types of coins, it's all greatly appreciated! Thanks!
P.S- When I say North Carolina, i'm around Charlotte. So somewhere nearby would be ideal, but i'm willing to travel some too, if need-be. Thanks again!
Best answer:
Answer by liberty 911 With these two links you can search for local coin dealers and coin clubs with people who will help you. The value of silver American Eagle coins is based on the current spot price of silver though dealers will pay a bit less in order to make a profit.

Question by Edward: what is the difference between Silver BU and Silver Proof? the technical specifications.?
I think BU stands for bullion? Silver Proof is more expensive than Silver BU. I think Proof (999) Silver is pure silver? Sterling Silver is 925 silver. Appreciate any inputs.
Best answer:
Answer by carbonates BU is an abbreviation for 'bright uncirculated'. It is applied most often to coins struck for circulation that do not have special methods of striking or special handling.
Proof is a special method of striking a coin that may involve several blows from a specially prepared planchet. Proof coins are generally not circulated and are sold only to collectors. See:
http://www.pcgs.com/lingo.chtml?Letter=P
Since Bright Uncirculated and Proof refer to the method of striking the coin by the mint, they have nothing to do with the silver content. A proof coin can have any amount of silver, or none at all.
You will have to refer to the specifications on the specific coin to know the difference in silver content between a BU coin and a Proof of the same coin. It is not unusual for a coin to have a higher silver content for a Proof version than a circulating BU, but it is not always true.
PCGS is a coin grading service that has a lot of information on the web page:

NGS is another coin grading service:
