Question by DavidFL: Why do American Silver Eagles say on them, yet an ounce of silver is always more than ?

Answer by diogenese19348
The Silver Eagles are worth a dollar legal tender. Of course, anybody using them that way is an idiot for obvious reasons.

The Silver Eagle is the same size and weight as the Morgan and Peace dollars, and they are legal tender also. You don't see anybody spending them as money either.

Question by vanbadiwal: What is a one ounce proof silver bullion American Eagle worth? I have 1986 and 1987 coins.?

Best answer:

Answer by greg b
Silver is at 20.10 an ounce

The Silver eagle market is around 22$ for a regular date - so thats the bear minimum.

All silver eagles are uncirculated so quality is prob not an issue for you, if they are still in their original case from the mint they are probably ms 67- to ms 69.

Both of your coins are around -40.

Hold onto them, silver will probably increase even more as the economy slumps.

Question by Whisperer: The metals market has silver at .90 an ounce. Is this what the buyer will pay if I have bullion such as ;?
I have silver eagle dollars? How about other silver coins? Where is the best place to take these and cash them in? I live in southern Wisconsin and am wondering if it is normal business for a bank to buy these?

Best answer:

Answer by Mike
.90 is the spot price that silver is traded on the commodities market. The price offered by dealers could be 5%-80% below that price and could charge a premium of 5%-80% over that price when selling depending on what the market will bare.

Banks won't buy them and you will need to find a dealer that will purchase them at a reasonable discount.

Question by Samurai: how much is a 1996 american eagle one ounce silver bullion coin worth? and where can i sell it?

Best answer:

Answer by sapphira72
Most places give you the value of the silver--according to Yahoo futures an oz. of silver is worth .18 today (unless it's a particularly rare coin). That amount can change hourly. Here we have a store that sells coins and comic books (I don't know why those two are together). You should look for a similar coin or collectible shop, or put it up on ebay.

Good luck.

Question by DavidFL: This Silver American Eagles are around to buy right now and the price of an ounce of silver is around ?
How much can you expect to sell them for at a coin dealer?

Best answer:

Answer by Michael C
A dealer will usually pay spot price less 10%. You can check the daily spot price at kicosilver.com. You would do better selling them on Ebay or any other auction site.
