Question by Dani: Where in North Carolina or anywhere else, can you sell old American Eagle Silver Dollar Coins for good value?
I have old American Eagle Silver Dollar Coins, from the 1980's up to the 2000's. If you know where I can sell them around North Carolina, where I would get a good value for them, or if you have any information on these types of coins, it's all greatly appreciated! Thanks!

P.S- When I say North Carolina, i'm around Charlotte. So somewhere nearby would be ideal, but i'm willing to travel some too, if need-be. Thanks again!

With these two links you can search for local coin dealers and coin clubs with people who will help you. The value of silver American Eagle coins is based on the current spot price of silver though dealers will pay a bit less in order to make a profit.

Question by hopes2graduate: Is my 1oz Silver Dollar worth more than a dollar? Just curious.?
Got a silver dollar as an award for work. Wondering how much its worth. Says Liberty on one side with a woman sowing a field and a rising or setting sun behind her. Minted in 2006. The back is a US emblem with the eagle. Probably dont want to get rid of it. Just curious. Do they rise in value and where to buy also? THANKS!

Question by Verity: Does a 1986 American Eagle Silver Dollar increase in value as time goes on? ?
Someone offered me for a proof 1986 American Eagle silver dollar that I own, mint in velvet box with certificate of authenticity. I've been doing my home work on this and they usually sell for around that price, I think it's fair. What I'm wondering is, is it worth selling now for or would it increase in value as time goes on?

For that matter, does any one know if the same applies for an 1883 Morgan Dollar?

Thanks!

Answer by Ben
In proof, book value for a 1986 Silver Eagle is . Now if you are selling one to a dealer you will never get and if you are buying one you will probably pay a bit less than that. Generally these do increase in value over time, but except for certain rare issues, coins in general are a bad investment compaired to the stock market (ironic right now, but true!) The worst you will ever do with these is slightly less than bullion value, they are in fact bullion. Silver is currently a bit under an ounce. If you want the money, go ahead and sell, but if you really don't want to sell you probably will come out a bit ahead in the long run by holding it. Morgans tend to trend upward, I would think a bit better than Silver Eagles. 1883 is not a very rare year (unless you have it in proof) but they are not making more of these.

What do you think? Answer below!

Question by Julie: what is an American Eagle silver dollar coin worth?
It's A 1903 American Eagle fine silver dollar. With a walking liberty and a sun on the bottom. The eagle on the back has open wings and 13 stars above its head and below the tailfeather on the right hand side it appears to have an "m"
Well then maybe it's a fake then, because it clearly says 1903 I can even take a picture of it but can't post it on here

Question by krazyxxman: Value for my Silver Dollar Coin Collection.?
I came into possession of a group of old silver dollar coins and was wondering if I could get a rough idea of what they are worth. I think they are real because many of them are a bit worn as if they are old and they seem to all be about the same weight and are heavy enough to seem authentic. Following is the descriptions:

2 1799 Coins:
Front- Flowing hair Bust on one side with 8 stars on the left and 7 stars on the right.
Back- Eagle behind a shield w/ "E. Pluribus Unum" banner across its neck, 13 stars above its head and "United States of America" around it; also holding arrows and plant in its claws

1 1871 and 1 1872 Coin (both have same designs):
Front- Person sitting down on a globe that says "Liberty" on it with 13 stars around it. He/She looks like they have a hat on and they're holding something and there's like a flag behind them.
Back- "United States of America" on top, Inside a wreath "Trade Dollar, 420 grains, 900 fine" At bottom of wreath, "In God we Trust" banner.

2 1873 Coins:
Front- A lady is sitting on a globe that says "Liberty on it and is holding something with plants in front of and behind her and 13 stars around it.
Back- "United States of America" on top with "E. Pluribus Unum" underneath it in small letters, an Eagle that looks like its starting to take off in the middle with arrows and plants in its claws, "In God we Trust" under the eagle in a banner in small print, "420 Grains, 900 Fine" under that, "Trade Dollar" under that, 1 star on each side

1 1882 Coin:
Front- Lady sitting holding a plant in an outstretched hand and a banner that says "Liberty" in other hand, with plants behind her "In God we Trust" under her and 13 stars around her.
Back- "United States of America" on top with "E. Pluribus Unum" underneath it in small letters, an Eagle standing in the middle with arrows and plants in its claws, "420 Grains, 900 Fine" under that, a small CC under that, "Trade Dollar" under that

2 1894 Coins & 1 1898 Coin (both have same designs):
Front- "E. Pluribus Unum" on top, Large Head in the middle with "Liberty" and wreath in hair, 7 stars on left, 6 stars on right
Back- "United States of America" wrapped around sides/top, "In God we Trust" under that, Standing Eagle with arrows and plants in claws in middle, Wreath under that around it, Small "CC" under that, "One Dollar" under that, 1 star on each side.

1 1906 Coin:
Front- "Liberty" on top/right side, Statue of Liberty in the middle with building on lower left, "Ellis Island, Gateway to America" to left of statue above building, "In God We Trust" and "P" to the lower right of statue under "Liberty"
Back- "United States of America" on top, hand and torch with beams coming off of it under that, "Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses, yearning to breathe free" around/under that, "E. Pluribus Unum" under that, "One Dollar" under that

1 1922 Coin:
Front- "Liberty" on top, Large head in the middle with Spiky crown on, "In God we Trvst" under/around that
Back- "United States of America" on top, "E. Pluribus Unum" under that, Eagle standing on a rock in the middle with plant in claws, sunbeams coming up from bottom right, "One Dollar" around eagle, "Peace" on bottom within rock

1 Undated Coin:
Front- Large Head in the middle with "Liberty" and wreath in hair (looks like head on 1894/98 Coins but a little smaller), 9 stars on left, 12 stars on right
Back- "One Troy Ounce" on top, 1 star uner that, a banner under that, no words on it but possibly worn out, a scale under that, it looks like 311 Grams under that but its a bit worn out, "999 Fine Silver" under that, Wreath on outside between "One Troy Ounce" and "999 Fine Silver", the rest is within a circle

That is all of them, some of them are worn out a bit, but some of them are in better condition as well. Any help as to the value or estimated approximate value of these coins, (ranges are ok too) would be helpful. Thanks!!!

31.1 grams is 1 ounce of silver. If all of them weigh the same, at this time each ounce is .65 per ounce. You have about 242.65 on bullion alone. (the weight in ounces). But the numismatic value could be a lot more . If I were you , I would check with a local coin dealer or collector that's trustable and see if they have more numismatic value than selling them by weight. Don't sell them to the collector, just get an idea of their value. Coins from those years could bring you a lot more money than you think.

Question by gun grunt: what is a 1878-s silver dollar with the codes(CH BU) worth approx. Excellent condition.?

Best answer:

Answer by davidg32
If it's genuinely in "Choice Brilliant Uncirculated" condition, it could be worth a few hundred dollars. It'd have to be accurately graded, though...a lot of coins in those cardboard holders are graded by the dealer, and many of them are over graded.
Good luck!

Question by unicorns151: hello i have a 1886-o morgan silver dollar that has 4 mint errors. i have had 3 coin experts look at it,?
and they all said it's authentic. two tried to buy it from me and the other said i need to keep ahold of it because he wants to do some research on it. these experts said they have never come across a coin like this before and they could not give me a value. the errors on this coin are as fallows.. a double clip with the marks being at 11 o'clock and at 7 o'clock, it is missing a star under the chin on the face, the "y" in the crown is short and it is off centered. the condition of this coin, i would guess to be very fine the feathers on the eagle's breast are worn but that is all, everything else seems to be sharp. my questions are should i have this coin certified and where? do you know the aproxament value of this coin? and has any coins like this come up for auction that you know of? any info that you can give me would be greatly appreciated.
thank you

Hi......Hang onto that coin......it sounds valuable from the description.......check prices and info on:
www.pcgs.com/prices

Have that coin checked again by a certified appraiser, not a coin dealer.......you may have some money at stake here, check and double check the true value of that coin before you sell it to anyone.......also check comparables on eBay.com................. :-) A P.S. > Make sure that the certified appraiser gives you a written appraisal............. :-)
