Question by jason g: why is american silver eagle coins more expensive than the silver bullion on monex.com..?
does this mean, coins are better than the silver bars itself..?

and which one will you rather buy coins or the silver bars..? (for me is coins for storage)

Answer by wildbirdie
The bars are just bulk silver. What they look like doesn't matter. The coins have a higher manufacturing cost.

Question by vanbadiwal: What is a one ounce proof silver bullion American Eagle worth? I have 1986 and 1987 coins.?

Best answer:

Answer by greg b
Silver is at 20.10 an ounce

The Silver eagle market is around 22$ for a regular date - so thats the bear minimum.

All silver eagles are uncirculated so quality is prob not an issue for you, if they are still in their original case from the mint they are probably ms 67- to ms 69.

Both of your coins are around -40.

Hold onto them, silver will probably increase even more as the economy slumps.

Question by Whisperer: The metals market has silver at .90 an ounce. Is this what the buyer will pay if I have bullion such as ;?
I have silver eagle dollars? How about other silver coins? Where is the best place to take these and cash them in? I live in southern Wisconsin and am wondering if it is normal business for a bank to buy these?

Best answer:

Answer by Mike
.90 is the spot price that silver is traded on the commodities market. The price offered by dealers could be 5%-80% below that price and could charge a premium of 5%-80% over that price when selling depending on what the market will bare.

Banks won't buy them and you will need to find a dealer that will purchase them at a reasonable discount.

Question by Chi L: Silver bullion or coins?
For less then 0 hundred dollars would you suggests silver bars, rounds, or something like American Silver Eagles or Canadian Maples? Is it safe to buy these from a website or better to go to some kind of coin shop? If so, what are some trusted sites?

Best answer:

Answer by Possum
Doesn't matter if you get bars or rounds. Silver is silver (as long as the purity is the same).

I prefer sounds like the Canadian Maple Leaf or the Austrian Vienna Philharmonics. Both are .999 silver but I like the coins better than the others.

If you are just looking to spend 300, I would try to buy at a local store. You could buy online but if you aren't buying a large quantity the price is going to be higher and then you have to pay for shipping and handling.

I have never bought from this sight but I know people that have. They said it was a good one.

Question by Vulcan Windsurfer: How does one cash in silver bullion?
I know some people choose to invest in precious metals, such as American Silver Eagle coins. I know someone with a bar of silver bullion also.

My question is, when the time comes in 10, 20 years that they want to cash in their investment, where do they go? It's not like there's a "Precious Metals Exchange Station" next to every Starbucks. Is it difficult to do, and what kind of fee is involved?

Best answer:

Answer by STEVEN F
You DON'T cash in coins or bullion. You SELL it to someone that wishes to BUY it.

Question by richtallent: Why are Silver Eagle Coins harder to purchase than silver bullion?
I have called Fidelity and Schwab wanting to purchase that specific coin for investment(about 20k worth) and both companies said the coins are not easily purchased. They come available only so often. Bullion can be bought right away.

Best answer:

Answer by JohnGalt
Call some of the major coin dealers, not a stock broker.

But bullion coins are in big demand right now as people globally are worried that the whole financial system will collapse. Premiums on gold coins are 0 or more over spot price. Usually they are about 4%.

Question by Samurai: how much is a 1996 american eagle one ounce silver bullion coin worth? and where can i sell it?

Best answer:

Answer by sapphira72
Most places give you the value of the silver--according to Yahoo futures an oz. of silver is worth .18 today (unless it's a particularly rare coin). That amount can change hourly. Here we have a store that sells coins and comic books (I don't know why those two are together). You should look for a similar coin or collectible shop, or put it up on ebay.

Good luck.

Question by MT: Does the absence of official US Mint Packaging (box/certificate) reduce the value of bullion coins?
I'm new to collecting US Bullion coins (other than buying directly from the US Mint which isn't possible) and have noticed that a lot of companies sell the bullion (Silver/Gold/Platinum eagles) and Gold Buffalo coins without the box and Certificate of authenticity that the US Mint provides when you buy through them. Is a bullion coin without the US Mint box/Certificate worth lesser than ones that do have them? I see a lot of venders who are selling the coin itself without any of the original US Mint packaging. Does this decrease a bullion coin's value. Also, does anyone have recommendations for good online retailers for bullion coins? Here in Utah there really are no dealers who sell US Mint Bullion. One in Salt Lake City is an official US Mint re-seller but mainly specializes in selling rare Mormon coins and don't have much US Mint merchandise in stock.

Best answer:

Answer by The Technomancer
It won't reduce the value, but if someone asks you for the certificate to prove authenticity and you don't have one, you may have a hard time making the sale. Other buyers aren't as picky. The best way to pick up good deals on your bullion is to hit up the auctions at http://www.buybullionnow.com/ -- they're all run through eBay stores so you can easily get prices below market value for investment and resale. It's hard to find brick-and-mortar bullion stores anymore, anyway.
