Question by Connie: do 2009 west point american silver eagles have mint mark?

Best answer:

Answer by Kyoo Sook J
Yes, it is a capital 'w'. It should be on the Reverse on the bottom left of the Eagle, directly below the olive branch, above the letter 'e' of the word 'fine'

Its not on the front so don't bother looking there

Question by Barkley Hound: How can I keep track of the current value of Gold/Silver American Eagles?
Most web sites that track American Eagle prices give the selling price. To keep track of my investment I need to know the buying price. The price I could get if the coins were sold. Is there a site that gives updated daily prices for both buy and sell?
I will probably just stay with the bid/ask price of gold and silver and not worry about the coin premium.

Answer by Daniel S
its hard to say. since there are so few gold coins actually circulating it is hard to put a price tag on them because you could get some VERY different prices depending on who buys. If you sell to a pawn shop or some site like cash4gold.com you are going to get pennies on the dollar in terms of worth but if you sell to someone who doesn't really understand what he's buying you could get spot price or higher for them. So its impossible to get a perfect fair value.

its been a while since I have dealt with these, the following assumes that they are one ounce coins and sell new for aprox over spot.
that said a reasonable estimate might be to take the current gold spot price which you can find at http://kitco.com/market/ subtract 2.5% (if you are optimistic) 5% if you are pessimistic and multiply by the number of coins you have.

Question by Chi L: Are american silver eagles an ok investment?
Are american silver eagles an ok investment? I also like the idea of collecting coins so are there any old silver coins that wouldn't run too much above the spot price of silver?

Best answer:

Answer by BenGraham
The worst investment is anything Cash. Since the silver eagle coin is cash, it does not make for a good investment.

Question by jason g: why is american silver eagle coins more expensive than the silver bullion on monex.com..?
does this mean, coins are better than the silver bars itself..?

and which one will you rather buy coins or the silver bars..? (for me is coins for storage)

Best answer:

Answer by wildbirdie
The bars are just bulk silver. What they look like doesn't matter. The coins have a higher manufacturing cost.

Question by DavidFL: Why do American Silver Eagles say on them, yet an ounce of silver is always more than ?

Best answer:

Answer by diogenese19348
The Silver Eagles are worth a dollar legal tender. Of course, anybody using them that way is an idiot for obvious reasons.

The Silver Eagle is the same size and weight as the Morgan and Peace dollars, and they are legal tender also. You don't see anybody spending them as money either.

Question by Dani: Where in North Carolina or anywhere else, can you sell old American Eagle Silver Dollar Coins for good value?
I have old American Eagle Silver Dollar Coins, from the 1980's up to the 2000's. If you know where I can sell them around North Carolina, where I would get a good value for them, or if you have any information on these types of coins, it's all greatly appreciated! Thanks!

P.S- When I say North Carolina, i'm around Charlotte. So somewhere nearby would be ideal, but i'm willing to travel some too, if need-be. Thanks again!

With these two links you can search for local coin dealers and coin clubs with people who will help you. The value of silver American Eagle coins is based on the current spot price of silver though dealers will pay a bit less in order to make a profit.

Question by Shanizzel: Are silver american eagle coins good as an investment?
I'm not talking about investing hundreds of dollars on them. What I am saying is, you hear a lot of people saying a today isn't going to be worth as much later right? Well if I were to purchase a Silver American Eagle coin this year, would the or so dollars spent on it be better served that way or just being saved at home.

They could be worth millions 25 to 30 years down the line....

Question by vanbadiwal: What is a one ounce proof silver bullion American Eagle worth? I have 1986 and 1987 coins.?

Best answer:

Answer by greg b
Silver is at 20.10 an ounce

The Silver eagle market is around 22$ for a regular date - so thats the bear minimum.

All silver eagles are uncirculated so quality is prob not an issue for you, if they are still in their original case from the mint they are probably ms 67- to ms 69.

Both of your coins are around -40.

Hold onto them, silver will probably increase even more as the economy slumps.

Question by Chi L: Where to buy American Silver Eagles?
Where is the best place to buy five to ten American Silver Eagles? Can you buy them from a local bank or is the best place something like a coin shop?

Best answer:

Answer by ?BobB?
Any coin shop will have them.

Banks do not sell them because they are not currency, they are bullion.

Question by bboy244: How can I tell that the silver American Eagles I purchased on Ebay are real ? I am new to coin collecting.?

Best answer:

Answer by jay marcus
Acquire the book before the product. With the influx of counterfeit U.S. coins from CHINA the hobby is getting ruined, because our Government cannot stop these forgeries. Ebay is an open target for these coins (these coins do not have to be stamped COPIES). Again either buy the coin book or check your local library coin section. Weight's & sizes might be the only clue to a fake! Good Luck
